Luke 6:17-26 [NCV]
17 Jesus and the apostles came down from the mountain, and he stood on level ground. A large group of his followers was there, as well as many people from all around Judea, Jerusalem, and the seacoast cities of Tyre and Sidon. 18 They all came to hear Jesus teach and to be healed of their sicknesses, and he healed those who were troubled by evil spirits. 19 All the people were trying to touch Jesus, because power was coming from him and healing them all.
20 Jesus looked at his followers and said,
“You people who are poor are blessed,
because the kingdom of God belongs to you.
21 You people who are now hungry are blessed,
because you will be satisfied.
You people who are now crying are blessed,
because you will laugh with joy.
22 “People will hate you, shut you out, insult you, and say you are evil because
you follow the Son of Man. But when they do, you will be blessed. 23 Be full of
joy at that time, because you have a great reward in heaven. Their ancestors
did the same things to the prophets.
24 “But how terrible it will be for you who are rich,
because you have had your easy life.
25 How terrible it will be for you who are full now, because you will be hungry.
How terrible it will be for you who are laughing now, because you will be sad
and cry.
26 “How terrible when everyone says only good things about you, because their
ancestors said the same things about the false prophets.
Memory Verse: Matthew 5:8
They are blessed whose thoughts are pure, for they will see God.

GOD-PLEASER
V. GOD-PLEASER
1. Not Materialistic
Luke 6:24
24 “But how terrible it will be for you who are rich, because you have had your easy life.
1 Timothy 6:9-10 [LEB]
9 But those who want to be rich fall into temptation and a trap and many foolish and harmful desires, which plunge those people into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is a root of all evil, by which some, because they* desire it, have gone astray from the faith and have pierced themselves with many pains.
2. Not Pleasure Seekers
Luke 6:25
25 How terrible it will be for you who are full now, because you will be hungry.
How terrible it will be for you who are laughing now, because you will be sad and cry.
Philippians 3:18-21 [ESV]
18 For many, of whom I have often told you and now tell you even with tears, walk as enemies of the cross of Christ. 19 Their end is destruction, their god is their belly, and they glory in their shame, with minds set on earthly things. 20 But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.
3. Not people pleasers
Luke 6:26
26 “How terrible when everyone says only good things about you, because their ancestors said the same things about the false prophets.
Ephesians 6:5-9 [ESV]
5 Bondservants, obey your earthly masters with fear and trembling, with a sincere heart, as you would Christ, 6 not by the way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but as bondservants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart, 7 rendering service with a good will as to the Lord and not to man, 8 knowing that whatever good anyone does, this he will receive back from the Lord, whether he is a bondservant or is free. 9 Masters, do the same to them, and stop your threatening, knowing that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and that there is no partiality with him.
