THE MOST SECURE PLACE IN THE WORLD

Updated: Feb 17, 2019

1 John 5:1-21 [NLT]

1Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has become a child of God. And

everyone who loves the Father loves his children, too. 2We know we love God’s

children if we love God and obey his commandments. 3Loving God means keeping his

commandments, and his commandments are not burdensome. 4For every child of God

defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith.

Memory Verse: 1 John 5:18 [NLT]

18 We know that God’s children do not make a practice of sinning, for God’s Son holds

them securely, and the evil one cannot touch them.

The Most Secure Place in the World is - being in a right relationship with GOD. it

means…

I. Believing that JESUS is the Messiah

1. John 5:1a [NLT]

1Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ

Isaiah 32:1 [NLT]

Look, a righteous king is coming! And honest princes will rule under him.

1 John 5:1b [NLT]

✓ has become a child of God.

✓ And everyone who loves the Father loves his children, too.

Acts 4:11, 12

11 Jesus is ‘the stone that you builders rejected,

which has become the cornerstone.’

12 Jesus is the only One who can save people. No one else in the world is

able to save us.”

The Most Secure Place in the World is - being in a right relationship with GOD.

It means…

1. Believing that JESUS is the Messiah

2. Proving our confession by submission to GOD’s commandments.

II. Proving our confession by submission to GOD’s commandments.

• 1 John 5:2-11 [NLT]

• Loving GOD results in obedience to His commandments and loving fellow believers.

2. We know we love God’s children if we love God and obey his commandments.

3. Loving God means keeping his commandments, and his commandments

are not burdensome.

• Our faith in GOD, keeps us faithful to GOD and free from worldly control.

4. For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory

through our faith. 5And who can win this battle against the world? Only

those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God.

• Our faith in JESUS CHRIST gives us spiritual life.

6. And Jesus Christ was revealed as God’s Son by his baptism in water and by

shedding his blood on the cross—not by water only, but by water and blood.

And the Spirit, who is truth, confirms it with his testimony. 7So we have

these three witnesses—8the Spirit, the water, and the blood—and all three

agree. 9Since we believe human testimony, surely we can believe the

greater testimony that comes from God. And God has testified about his

Son. 10All who believe in the Son of God know in their hearts that this

testimony is true. Those who don’t believe this are actually calling God a

liar because they don’t believe what God has testified about his Son.

• CHRIST’s baptism: a symbol of death to sinful desires and behavior at

immersion and a symbol to new life of holiness at the raising from the

water. Water is a symbol of cleansing. We wash our bodies from

accumulated and physically harmful dirt and germs. So we wash our

spirits in the symbolic water of baptism.

• CHRIST’s blood - is a symbol of a life given as payment for the sins that

condemn mankind.

Hebrews 9:13, 14 [LEB]

13 For if the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a young cow

sprinkled on those who are defiled sanctify them for the ritual purity

of the flesh, 14 how much more will the blood of Christ, who through

the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, cleanse

our consciences from dead works to serve the living God?

• The HOLY SPIRIT is witness to both present at the baptism of JESUS

AND His death at the cross

Deuteronomy 19:15

A matter must be established by the testimony of two or three

witnesses”

1 John 5:11

11And this is what God has testified: He has given us eternal life, and

this life is in his Son. 12Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not

have God’s Son does not have life.

Ephesians 4:17-24 [NCV]

17 In the Lord’s name, I tell you this. Do not continue living like those who

do not believe. Their thoughts are worth nothing. 18 They do not

understand, and they know nothing, because they refuse to listen. So they

cannot have the life that God gives. 19 They have lost all feeling of shame,

and they use their lives for doing evil. They continually want to do all kinds

of evil. 20 But what you learned in Christ was not like this. 21 I know that

you heard about him, and you are in him, so you were taught the truth that

is in Jesus. 22 You were taught to leave your old self—to stop living the evil

way you lived before. That old self becomes worse, because people are

fooled by the evil things they want to do. 23 But you were taught to be

made new in your hearts, 24 to become a new person. That new person is

made to be like God—made to be truly good and holy.

III. Enjoying a dependent relationship with GOD.

1 John 5:13-15 [NLT]

• In CHRIST salvation is attainable and secure.

13 I have written this to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so

that you may know you have eternal life.

• In CHRIST our prayers are heard and answered.

14 And we are confident that he hears us whenever we ask for anything

that pleases him.

James 4:3 [NLT]

And even when you ask, you don’t get it because your motives are all

wrong—you want only what will give you pleasure.

I John 15:5

15 And since we know he hears us when we make our requests, we also know

that he will give us what we ask for.

Matthew 4:1-4 [NLT]

1 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted there by

the devil. 2 For forty days and forty nights he fasted and became very hungry.

3 During that time the devil came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God,

tell these stones to become loaves of bread.”

4 But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say,

‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

4. Rejecting a sinful lifestyle.

IV. Rejecting a sinful lifestyle

• Scripture/Explanation: 1 John 5:16-21 [NLT]

16If you see a fellow believer sinning in a way that does not lead to death, you

should pray, and God will give that person life. But there is a sin that leads to

death, and I am not saying you should pray for those who commit it. 17All

wicked actions are sin, but not every sin leads to death.

1) A Specific, Deadly Sin.

Deuteronomy 17:12, 13 [ESV]

12 The man who acts presumptuously by not obeying the priest who stands

to minister there before the Lord your God, or the judge, that man shall

die. So you shall purge the evil from Israel. 13 And all the people shall hear

and fear and not act presumptuously again.

2) Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.

1 Sam 2:25,

If a man sins against another man, God may mediate for him; but if a man

sins against the Lord, who will intercede for him?

3) Total Rejection of the Gospel.

Heb 6:4–6; 10:26–27 states:

It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted

the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, who have tasted the

goodness of the Word and the powers of the coming age, if they fall away,

to be brought back to repentance, because to their loss they are crucifying

the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace.… If we

deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the

truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful expectation of

judgment and of raging fire that will consume God’s enemies.

1 John 5:18-21

18We know that God’s children do not make a practice of sinning, for God’s Son

holds them securely, and the evil one cannot touch them. 19We know that we

are children of God and that the world around us is under the control of the

evil one.

20 And we know that the Son of God has come, and he has given us

understanding so that we can know the true God. And now we live in

fellowship with the true God because we live in fellowship with his Son, Jesus

Christ. He is the only true God, and he is eternal life.

21Dear children, keep away from anything that might take God’s place in your hearts.

Romans 12:1, 2 [NLT]

1And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God

because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the

kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him. 2Don’t copy

the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new

person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will

for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
